Absolutely gutted. I lost 10kgs of post-baby weight on the 5:2 which I’ve mostly kept off, read all his books, watched all his programs and seen him live (with Clare) last year in Sydney. A gifted science communicator, it’s a huge loss for the countless people he’s helped and was yet to help. And of course his family - I hope they are drawing at least some comfort from the high esteem so many of us held for him. May he rest in peace 💔
Thanks for this post. I too have felt a need to pause and acknowledge his impact on my life. I first encountered him about 7 or 8 years ago when I was in a mid forties slump and needed some inspiration to get back to my healthy weight. The 5:2 and intermittent fasting were nothing short of miraculous, the books and accompanying tv programs where science was clearly translated had a huge impact. I’m now doing a post Covid reset with similar effect using the fast 800 and Mediterranean books. Not to mention his recent stuff on small healthy lifestyle changes. I would say his impact has been profound. A real influencer for social good.
I am ridiculously upset about it. He seemed so utterly lovely. Mister lost 100kgs on the 5:2 and has kept it off for a decade. It’s been life changing.
that's it - he literally changed lives, with humour and empathy. It was so inspiring that he had changed his own life and admitted to his weakness for sugar, which definitely helped my diabetic husband feel less pathetic about his own craving for it.
Absolutely devastated by his death too Maggie. He was a wonderful communicator with great curiosity. But more so a decent human. I too lost 10 kolos on his Fast 800 and had followed his fasting guidelines for years. It is so tragic and filled with so many ‘if only ‘ thoughts.
Such an incredible loss. He started the whole weight loss etc thing because he realised that no one in his family lived beyond 72, so extra tragic that he died so young.
Please could I ask which tracker you used? I signed up again to the free version of my fitness pal but it feel very tedious & am constantly bombarded by ads trying to get me to subscribe.
I haven’t been this upset about the death of someone I didn’t personally know since Michael Hutchence died (no shade to queen Elizabeth II). Michael Mosley was accessible, funny, engaging and mischievous. The 5:2 diet was transformative for me. His passing is incredibly sad.

Maggie, I’ve cried with you as you acknowledged the shocking loss of Dr Michael Moseley and the positive impact he had on so many lives.
Thank you for your beautiful words.

So very sad - RIP
And flowers for his beautiful family 💐
Very sad. He seemed like a lovely man, and did so much that helped so many.

Nutra Check calorie counter. It's a game changer - made the low carb thing so easy to do.
Thank you
Vale Michael Mosley..you influenced so many many lives for the better, and that is a precious legacy.
