Love your work Maggie and thank you for the time and effort. Budgetary constraints prevent me from pledging now (hoping to rectify that later in the year) but I fully support your move to to a paid platform - it is only fair. I'll look forward to your free posts and your new book is already on my birthday list!
Hi Judy - I completely understand and I do feel conflicted. I wish I could carry on doing it for nothing, but what Substack provides is a brilliant new platform for professional writers like me to make a living. One of the things I love about it - apart from the total editorial freedom - is cutting out the middle man of the corporations that pay me to write for magazines and newspapers. Straight from the reader to the writer seems much better xxx
Love the camo and leopard print worn proudly. Just wanted to say that I can’t pledge at the moment but that I fully support your move to a subscription. I enjoy reading your posts and appreciate that time and work goes into creating them. Hopefully I can pledge in the future.
Thank you Beth. I completely understand - I don't subscribe to all the Stacks I would like to for that reason - but there will be at least one free post every week. Thank you for appreciating the work put in. In the early days of blogging got people used to being able to read stuff for free, which was great, but then everyone realised you couldn't make a living from it unless you were selling something, or being paid to promote stuff. It all get very murky. I really love the new platform Substack provides for professional writers like me.
OK. Sometimes I wear my great aunt's fur hat. Only when I'm on my own at home. It is pure Dr Zhivago and I look wanton in it, even if I've sunk so low as to pair it with ugg boots. I know it's wrong, and as I tuck it away in its calico bag I usually make a half-arsed promise not to do it again.
PS Maggie, I'm pretty sure I pledged ages ago, but am not sure how to check?
First cab off the rank - so I just had to comment too. Looking fab there! Pard doesn’t feature too large in my wardrobe though I do have a fab pair of rain boots that are leopard print, riding boot height and indeed brighten any rainy day!
I’m thrilled with my deep blue mohairy car coat which got me out of the offical Melbourne uniform (black puffer, obvs😊) at the end of our lock downs. Lifts me up as well as keeping me warm.
Unfortunately I’m another not pledging just yet due to the current finances, but am pledging to pledge when I can later this year, as a fan since GW days.
Of course you should be paid for your finely-crafted words! (that I’ve been enjoying since SMH days) Alas the Aussie $ is a bit pathetic up against the UK £, so I shall look forward to my weekly hit. So sorry.
I had an older neighbour some years back, who tended to her prize-winning cottage garden in a flowy, long sleeved, belted, jumpsuit - neck to ankle in leopard print. Always with pearls, gold (sensible) sandals and a loose bun up-do. I always looked for her out & about to see how glam she was away from the flower beds, but she must have sent a minion out for supplies.

You are fully pledged! Thank you so so much. You were one of the first xxx

ooooh they sound fab! I have a pard umbrella which does the trick for me xxx
LOVE the leopard & camo, am going to do this. I enjoy mixing leopard with floral, too, and… more leopard!
Leopard and TARTAN is another winner...
YES, and I’ve done that with stripes and florals and skulls all in the same outfit! 😅 (It was during lockdown.)
How exciting to have you doing our @advantagesofage Q&A! Can't wait until it goes live in a couple of weeks! Xx
